Black Tie by the Sea: The Dress Hunt Begins

I’m a guest at a May wedding this year, and I could not be more excited.

We’re talking Playas de Tijuana… so: ocean breeze, good music, incredible food—and a bride who is effortlessly sophisticated. Which means I already know this is going to be that kind of party. The kind you remember.

Naturally, I’ve entered my favorite phase: the dress hunt.

The dress code is black tie, and to be honest, I almost always go long for weddings unless the invitation says otherwise. It just feels right. A little drama, a little elegance… a moment.

I’ve been eyeing a few options (all bride-approved, of course), but there’s one that’s already whispering, “it’s me… it’s me.”

Let me show you.

First, a quick love note—completely unpaid—to a brand I genuinely adore: Azazie. I’ve ordered from them before and love their whole experience. You can try on three dresses at home and send back what doesn’t work, and they also offer custom sizing. I wore one of their dresses to my sister-in-law’s wedding, and it fit like a glove. (The cover photo of this post? That’s the one.)

Now, back to the contenders.

There’s a piece from their Barbie collection in this warm mustard tone that I’m convinced will make my post–La Paz tan glow even more. It has this soft, romantic texture at the bodice—subtle ruching, delicate floral details… flirty in a very intentional way.

My mom always says, “She who wears yellow trusts in her beauty.”
And honestly… I feel that.

Then there’s another option that stopped me in my tracks. Regal, striking—almost like an Egyptian empress. The kind of dress that enters the room before you do. My only hesitation? The leg slit. I’m not exactly known for being the most restrained person on the dance floor, and I’m wondering how much freedom that slit will actually allow once the party starts.

And finally… the possible winner.

This one feels like a Greek goddess met a forest nymph and decided to attend a black-tie wedding by the sea. Flowing, ethereal, elegant without trying too hard. Yes, it also has a slit—but softer, more subtle. Less “look at me,” more “of course.”

Effortless. Feminine. Very much me.

So now I have to ask—

Which one would you choose?
